York House School
Additional Info
Award Winner : Metric Modular
Architectural Excellence : The Britco design and sales team worked with the client’s architect as well as electrical and mechanical consultants to design a large temporary annex of classroom portables for use over a two or three year period while the 80-year- old school undergoes significant upgrades and expansion. Consisting of eight modules, this complex includes wide-open spaces with a full 9' height to the t-bar ceiling, and the exterior walls have multiple large windows to maximize natural light. The corridor is site-built and constructed to complement the classrooms with wood finishes, carpeting, skylights and accent lighting.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : High-efficiency, wall-mounted, self-contained HVAC units optimize zoning control with minimal noise intrusion critical for a learning environment and introduce sufficient quantities of fresh air to maintain indoor air quality levels. This temporary, modular solution allows the school to continue providing a bright, comfortable, positive learning environment with minimal site impact once the buildings are removed from the site.

Production Start Date : 11/22/2011
Project Location City : Vancouver
Project Location State Name : BC
Technical Innovation : The factory-built modules were installed on a temporary block and pad wood foundation to minimize on-site disruption and structural beams allow for maximum open space. The corridor between modules is utilized for student lockers, thereby reducing the total building footprint. The building is heated and air conditioned using a wall-mounted forced-air system with ducting in the t-bar space.
