Architectural Excellence : This eight classroom addition with an internal double loaded corridor and central restrooms was built to provide additional classroom space for an existing school going through an extensive remodeling and expansion process. The modular addition was sited off the end of a main corridor in the existing school and was connected with a covered walkway to provide shelter for the students as they walked between buildings.
All of the finishes, both interior and exterior were selected to match the finishes being used in the remodel of the existing school building to successfully tie all of the improvements together with a common theme for the school campus.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : By manufacturing this school addition off-site while concurrently proceeding with a major remodel of the existing facility the school was able to maximize the amount of work completed in a short time span while maintaining better control of the construction site, minimizing the impact on the local neighborhood and shielding a significant portion of the work from high prevailing wage requirements.
The building envelope is well insulated with insulation levels of R-25 in the floor, R-19 in the walls and R-30 in the roof. The windows are Energy Star rated with Low-E glazing and the lights are T-8 florescent with electronic ballasts. A hydronic heating system with chillers was installed in the building to provide space conditioning for the occupants with additional capacity to also support the needs of a portion of the existing school building.

Technical Innovation : This building has a hinged roof system that allowed the factory to build the complete pitched roof in the factory and then be able to lower it to keep the shipping height within the Department of Transportation requirements for the states it would be transported within. Once on site the roof system was quickly raised and secured to provide a water tight building envelope.
