Technical Innovation : The building structure was comprised of (4) 14’x62’ modules with a custom floor plan to meet the correctional guidelines for a half way house dormitory.

The new modules were to be provided by a different manufacturer with careful attention needed to match structural and finish materials.

A crawl space was excavated to allow the building to be set with sidewalks at grade at all building entrances. Access to the crawl space was provided with an exterior hatch that also included a mechanical ventilation system.

Security viewing was provided down the hallway of the existing building as well as to the new women’s day room and dormitory areas.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : The climate in Wyoming required upgraded building specifications with 2”x6” exterior wall studs with a continuous air infiltration barrier and R-19 insulation. The roof system was provided with a vapor barrier and R-38 insulation.

A commercial roof top heating and air-conditioning system with digital controls was installed with on site balancing to provide an efficient and comfortable climate in all areas of the building.

Thermostats were strategically installed in the dormitories and other areas of the building to provide the variance of temperature needed in the living and sleep areas.

Architectural Excellence : The project was provided on a design build basis and was an addition to a male dormitory provided to the customer in 2002 by Satellite.

The modules between the existing and new building were connected with a common corridor. This would provide access of the staff between both male and female dormitory buildings.

Although the existing building included a kitchen and dining area the floor plan required segregation of the male and female population and separate areas for dining, laundry and day area were provided in the new women’s addition.

The colors and finishes on the exterior and interior were provided to match the existing to provide continuity between buildings.

At completion the building appears as one on both the interior and exterior.
