Williamsport High School Press Box
Additional Info
Award Winner : Mobilease Modular Space, Inc.
Architectural Excellence : On the 50 yard line of the existing STA Stadium (formerly Williamsport Area High School Stadium), a new two story Press Box was installed as part of the restoration to the athletics field of Williamsport Area High School. Having site constraints, the Press Box was designed to maximize the site envelope and allow an optimal viewing experience for both the home and away teams’ coaching staff, as well as press coverage. The interior walls have vinyl gypsum and the exterior siding has 29 gauge vertical, bright red steel siding to match the school colors. Large windows provide a full view of the sport activity taking place on the field.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : To make way for the new Press Box, and to avoid the cost of demolition, the existing older Press Box was dismantled as a student project. Additionally, Mobilease was able to re-utilize 70% of the existing foundation to save money. The units were designed to enable the manufacturer to build everything possible off-site. What the manufacture could not build or ship loose, Mobilease Modular Space Inc. built and installed on-site.

Technical Innovation : The roof is .045 EPDM rubber finish with a 30” x 54” roof hatch (“Acudor” brand) opening that provides entrance to the rooftop via a metal ladder. Roof railings and walking pads were installed on-site for the safety of camera operators. Interior stairs were designed and built by the manufacturer which saved on-site construction time and resulted in cost savings to the client. Within a limited work space envelope, each unit was set by crane. Heating and cooling equipment was minimized based upon the client’s needs, which resulted in energy cost savings for the client.
