Award Winner : Metric Modular
Architectural Excellence : The Britco design and sales team worked with the client’s architect to design two buildings, each consisting of two 24 x 40 “designer” classroom complexes, installed adjacent to the existing school and separated by a basketball court. The classrooms will be used by the senior grades over a period of several years while the school undergoes the application process for redevelopment of the site and fundraising to build a new school. Incorporating eight classrooms, the two buildings have wide-open spaces with a full 9' height to the t-bar ceiling, exterior walls with large windows to maximize natural light and carpet on the floors for noise reduction. The corridors were site-built and constructed to complement the classrooms with wood finishes and matching carpet.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : The school opted for electric baseboard heating in the classrooms complemented with a make-up air unit with zone control to optimize fresh air intake. This system allowed the school to avoid the expense of upgrading the existing electrical system in order to add a more costly HVAC option.

Project Location State Name : BC
Technical Innovation : The modules were designed with structural beams to allow for maximum open space and installed on a block and pad wood foundation to minimize site disruption while classes in the existing school were in session. The corridors are utilized for student lockers, thereby reducing the overall building footprint.
