Architectural Excellence : Fort Leavenworth needed a temporary facility for war scenario training while the general contractor renovated the building where three government departments are located. The difference between this project and most military swing space projects was that the configuration of the interior of the modular units needed to be designed to replicate the permanent structure. The training facility building consists of 29 units for a total of 31,474 square feet of classroom space. There is also a three-unit complex of 2,160 square feet built for the ETV Studio. Three 10’x50’s for a total of 1,500 square feet were installed to be used as connecting links. One double wide of 1,440 square feet was provided for storage. Seven 8’x40’ shipping containers for a total of 2,240 square feet were used for climate controlled storage.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : Starting with the design, Hunter Saak and the customer took the time needed to pre-design the complex to meet the military’s specific site needs. Hunter Saak also designed the building to be able to be divided into three smaller complexes for future leases. No space was available on base for use while the renovations were being done. By providing an on site temporary training facility, there was no lapse in training while moving into the modular facility. Additionally, the customer saved money and time in travel and security costs.

Technical Innovation : Each classroom was designed with its own audio visual room. Each classroom has five high tech touch video screens for war games. Each classroom has 25 computers integrated with the video screens that communicate with other classrooms located throughout the country. The ETV studio was built for sound elimination. Hush board was used in the walls, ceiling, and between the floor joists to obtain the required STC rating. 2,800 computer tie-ins were installed at on site. The seven storage containers were re-designed to provide open storage for different military departments. A double wide modular was also tied in via a 10’x50’ building.
