Architectural Excellence : The University of Toronto was in need of an attractive, stand alone booth for Varsity Stadium event ticket sales. The booth design needed to houses as many as 4 ticket sales staff to deal with large volumes. NRB worked with the University’s designer and incorporate traditional ticket wickets with speaker vents and pass-under deal slots. Two wickets were positioned lower for accessibility. The desired appearance became “retro - 1950’s diner style”, with patterned stainless steel walls, accented ticket wickets, wall mounted dome lights and single letter signage. The colour scheme was carried over from their new score board and stadium accents.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : The University’s originally desire was to site built the ticket booth but the modular solution was less expensive. A modular concept solved the problem that the university had – having ongoing construction on campus during the school year (and while stadium events continued to happen). The University is pleased to have bought a modular ticket booth, because in the event of future relocation, there is now no need to engage in costly demolition and re-construction.

Technical Innovation : The structural design included large removable steel beams for a perimeter sign box support. The overall structural of the booth was enhanced to carry these cantilevered loads. The sign beams were removable for initial transportation and possible re-location in the future. The exterior stainless steel counters included a unique “wicket shelter” protective hood custom manufactured to protect the transaction area from weather. Supported by the sign beams, overhead exterior glass panels allow daylight and re-direct rain from the wicket areas. White spandrel glass panels are used to give the appearance of transparency while preserving the solid wall areas for security and insulation. Evenly spaced internal roof drains remove rain water and air conditioner discharge from recessed roof.
