Architectural Excellence : The lodge was designed in a motel style to meet the bed shortage for oil field workers in South Texas and houses 130 people in a combination of private and semi-private rooms. The five sleeping dorms or wings each sleep 26 guests in combinations of single queen beds, double twin beds and ADA rooms to meet the handicap requirements in Texas. The main lobby building includes a reception/check-in area, laundry facilities for the entire lodge, offices, conference rooms, exercise room, TV/recreation area and a kitchen/dining area to support the continental breakfast service for the guests. Guests room were complete with all built-in furniture and included in-room refrigerators, microwaves and coffee pots. The exterior was painted in earth tone colors consistent with the South Texas topography. The interior was done in a warm, friendly neutral brown color scheme.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : Because of the urgent requirement for sleeping accommodations in South Texas, the site work and module construction had to be completed in the same timeline. Finished modules were able to be delivered to site as soon as it was ready, so construction was completed much faster than regular site built construction. Because of this, the lodge was operating and realizing revenue much faster than standard construction. The lodge meets or exceeds all current IECC energy codes as well as all current Texas and local authority requirements. Also included were Energy Star appliances, low-E insulated windows, T-8 florescent lighting, fully insulated interior walls for sound attenuation and high density insulation in the exterior walls to minimize heat loss.

Technical Innovation : The lodge was situation along a major thoroughfare and was strategically situated to the rear of the property to minimize sound transfer from the highway while providing guests with a more quiet and relaxing stay. The site was excavated for the complexes so all doorways were at ground level and the exterior appearance was more comparable to a site built structure.
