Architectural Excellence : The Town of Weymouth had three of its schools outgrow the capacity of their original facilities and sought to expand the campuses. Aries Building Systems, LLC was called in to fabricate and install new freestanding school annexes for the growing Town of Weymouth facilities on Academy Avenue, the Murphy School, and the Talbout School. Architectural support was provided by Steven Lazarus of Lazarus & Sargeant Architects of Wallingford, CT. The new annexes are made up of 14 modules in the following configuration: 2(56’x36’) and 1(84’x44’). Aries was also responsible for the delivery and installation of foundations that allow the exits to meet grade for ADA compliance at two sites with no ramps, while the third site was set at 4’ above grade and used engineered piers and a switchback aluminium ramp system. Additionally, all three sites required weather protection, so canopies were used at two facilities and a heated corridor at the third due to available fire sprinklers in the school.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : The entirety of the three facility expansions on this project are 100% modular at 85% completeness of modules when leaving the factory. The project was completed in record time to meet the deadline for the start of each facilities summer term without sacrificing quality or style. The project plan was designed to maximize output in a short amount of time and the buildings’ modular design ensures reduced maintenance costs while increasing the lifespan of the whole structure.

Technical Innovation : The Town of Weymouth schools had to be situated as close to the main campuses as possible. Working with small sites during the COVID-19 shutdowns forced the logistics team at Aries Building Systems, LLC to be particularly creative in developing and maximizing the available space. All access ways were designed and installed according to the ADA Standards for Accessible Design to ensure their accessibility to people with disabilities. Additionally, all the buildings use LED lighting and gas fired rooftop units.
