Town of Lexington: Bridge, Bowman, and Fiske Elementary Schools
Additional Info
Award Winner : Triumph Modular
Architectural Excellence : Due to increasing enrollment, the Town of Lexington sought to build additions to Bridge, Bowman, and Fiske elementary schools to accommodate the growing student population while also equipping the schools to meet the needs of 21st century education.
The scope of work included design, prefabrication, site assembly/installation, and all services required to complete and deliver modular building additions at three schools. Building to specifications developed by DiNisco Design, Triumph added three permanent additions that featured two flexible classrooms with the ability to be subdivided into smaller classrooms for more intimate learning environments for special needs students. Custom, site-built connectors were added to each for seamless integration with the existing building, while girls’ and boys’ gang-style bathrooms were added at Bridge and Bowman.
The additions’ exteriors were comprised of Hardiepanels®, painted maroon and beige to complement the building’s brick exterio
Cost Energy Effectiveness : The project was achieved in a six-month design to occupancy time table. The tight construction timeline was developed in respect to the school calendar to minimize disruption. All three sites were set over February break, and sprinkler and electrical work was completed during April break. On-site work was performed on weekends and after school. Careful planning and coordination to use the same subcontractors on all three sites allowed for completion in mid-August to provide adequate time for teachers to set up for the academic year.

Technical Innovation : The addition at Fiske Elementary required re-work, which included transforming a classroom into a hallway to connect the addition to the existing school, while an existing office became part of the site-built connector. An open vestibule in the connector allowed for seamless integration with the existing school.
Fiske’s parking lot was reworked to add more spaces, while the lots at Bridge and Bowman were repaved to allow for a clearer line of vision for pick-up and drop-off. The repaving required temporarily re-routing bus pickup and parent pickup locations.
The project arrived 70% built to completion. VCT flooring and ceiling tiles were installed at the site, while interior and exterior walls were taped, spackled and primed by the factory. Final touch-ups were performed on site.
