Tiger Stadium AKA "The Corner"
Additional Info
Award Winner : Champion Commercial Structures
Architectural Excellence : Tiger Stadium, AKA “The Corner,” stands proud at the corner of Michigan and Trumbull in downtown Detroit. This project was built to revitalize the city and maintain the heritage of the original site of the Detroit Tiger’s baseball stadium. There are three stories of apartments over various retail spaces. The Corner consists of 111 living units, predominantly studio and 1-bedroom units, with six 2-bedroom units that flank the ends. Three larger palatial 2-bedroom units right on the corner have views for several blocks of the Detroit city skyline.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : The project was not expected to be built modular for less cost than if it were built conventionally. Consistency in the technique and quality was the goal. The modules were built in central Pennsylvania and trucked to Detroit. In a little more than three weeks, the project went from just the podium to an erected structure. The living units were fitted out with LVT floor in the living and kitchen areas, and with ceramic tile floors and tub/shower surrounds in the bath. Large windows and patio doors bring in the light offering great views of the growing area.

Technical Innovation : This project was built as a hybrid. The apartments were built as modules. The retail podium, stair towers and elevator core were built conventionally.
