Architectural Excellence : The Richland School District needed a building for students combining curriculum between the district and home. The goal was to design a campus with the characteristics of a traditional site built building while using modular construction to meet tight timelines. The 16,780 square foot permanent building includes exterior finishes such as a unique entry canopy, a combination of split face and smooth CMU masonry, horizontal Hardiplank lap, and vertical standing seam clad mansards. The multi-purpose room design with large, 17-foot high SIPs wall panels gives the room an open feel and allows for physical education classes. The space also serves as a general meeting area and cafeteria with a full kitchen. The strategically designed school incorporates flexible general classrooms and administrative space including a nurse station, multi-use restrooms, a music room, an assembly room, library, a science lab, art classroom, study rooms, and practice rooms, including sound-bearing voice rooms.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : The Richland School District desperately needed a building to house five-year- olds through 18-year-olds and they needed it fast. The Three Rivers HomeLink School, entering its eighth year had barely managed in tight quarters, sharing a church building. As the program grew, a bond measure approved an entirely new building and the district wanted it designed, built and installed immediately. It was clear modular construction was the only answer to meet the strict timeframe. Speed and diligence to the design were of the essence. By completing so much work in the factory and only being onsite from May through August, students were able to walk in on the first day to an entirely complete campus. Even with being the only option from a timeframe standpoint, the project costs came in about 20% less than conventional construction. The district ensured students are now safe in one building and had a clear vision for the varied age range and subject matters being taught under one roof.

Technical Innovation : In order to meet the high celling requirements of the multi-purpose room, Pacific Mobile Structures used both modular and conventional construction methods, including a slab-on grade foundation and 17-foot high site-installed SIPs wall panels. Conventional construction methods were also used for the install of the split face brick. Ample storage was needed for the district, therefore, custom designed cabinetry was used throughout the building. A steel floor system with steel rims was used to add to the sustainability, as well. The Richland School District needed an entire building for its homeschool and online students working on campus, rather than using multiple relocatable classrooms. The design and specifications of this larger modular complex ensures a longer life-cycle and a quality building for generations; as enrollment grows in this dynamic educational model.
