Additional Info
Award Winner : Nortex Modular Space
Architectural Excellence : The laboratory building consists of two 14’ x 60’ units providing a 1,680 square foot in total to accommodate 20 students. The exterior site applied stucco finish was designed to complement and blend in with the existing facilities and the units were configured in such a manner that they could be easily placed on a permanent, poured-in-place concrete foundation. The HVAC was designed to accommodate and work with a number of fume hoods. A handicap restroom, janitor’s closet, and private office were also provided.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : Energy saving features included a reflective white roof, Low-E glass windows, HVAC system upgrade, R-30 roof insulation, R-15 wall insulation, a stucco canopy over the commercial glass entrance door, and perimeter guttering to delivery roof drainage to landscape beds and away from the building.

Technical Innovation : The high-efficiency, split system HVAC system was installed to work with the fume hoods in the lab area of the building and with outside, ground mounted condensing units. The building was installed on an engineered, poured concrete foundation and after the stucco exterior finish was applied, poured-in-place concrete decks, ramp and sidewalks were installed to connect to existing services. A concrete grade beam was installed around the perimeter of the building (concealed by the skirting) to prevent rodents from crawling under the building.
