Technical Innovation : With the separate entry, office space, and mechanical room concentrated on one end of the unit; one door separates the work from the living quarters. As mentioned above, the main concentration was the living quarters. The main bathroom features a one piece Fiat tub with waterproof shower light and a heat lamp located just outside the shower. A tubular skylight located just inside the bathroom door provides natural light for the vanity area and bedroom. The tubular skylight is designed to use reflective internal surfaces to produce as much natural light as a 3’ x 3’ square skylight. It also reflects natural daylight even on rainy days, reducing electricity, heating and air conditioning costs.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : One of the main focuses for this unit was the gas fireplace to provide a back up heat source in case of a power outage.
Combined with the 2” x 6” construction, Tyvek building wrap and the roll up shutters, this unit could be used in any winter environment. Also this unit has an energy efficient furnace and Hot Water Heating. The stackable washer/dryer has a built in sensor that monitors the moisture level of the load and will shut off reducing energy costs.
This unit also provides housing for the client saving them expensive hotel costs and travel time to and from isolated locations.

Architectural Excellence : Designed as a skidded living quarters and office/laboratory for a geologist.Since the client spends ninety percent of the year on a job site, the main focus with this unit was to incorporate certain aspects that reflected a home away from home. Some of the features to achieve this were the corner gas fireplace, stainless steel top of the line kitchen appliances, upper cabinets to the ceiling to optimize storage space and the strategically placed lighting in the living room. As for the bedroom, a customized designed headboard for linen storage and side cedar lined shelves for clothes storage. The bathroom boasts an enclosed shower with overhead light and L shaped vanity. This unit was designed for the industrial application as well as comfortable enough for the family to come stay.
