Architectural Excellence : Our Mount Logan Lodge Dorms are comprised of 12 independent dorm wings and a total of 1243 guest rooms providing accommodations for Operators at Suncor’s Fort Hills Site. The guest rooms at Mount Logan Lodge ensure a well-rested and energized individual by providing a quiet room, comfortable bed, modern amenities, individual temperature control and an attached private washroom. Each custom designed dorm wing consists of a three story modular structure with local laundry facilities, mechanical room, Data/IT room, janitorial room, staff washrooms, storage room, electrical room, housekeeping storage room and common area lounge on each floor. The standard dorm room square footage is 148 sq ft while the larger couple’s rooms and barrier free rooms is approximately 300 sq ft each. The dormitory wings are a three story design with a one of a kind Cedarmill Hardie-Panel finish that includes an iron gray lower floor siding, coble stone middle and top floor siding.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : The modular method of construction, rather than site-built, provided the owner with the same high quality result in less than half the time, and with significant savings on labour, workforce accommodation, project overhead and management expenses.

Green Building Description : The Mount Logan Lodge Dorms lighting system was designed using the most efficient and effective lamps, luminaries and control equipment. Low flow fixtures were utilized to reduce generation of wastewater and potable water demand. Use of excessive energy was reduced by incorporating energy efficient measures such as a high performance building envelope, reducing ambient lighting requirements and maximizing the efficiency of the building’s HVAC and domestic hot water system.

Technical Innovation : The Mount Logan Lodge Dorms consist of twelve three story dormitory wings for operators. The first floor of Dorm L consists of couples and barrier free suites. The building systems including electrical, mechanical, HVAC Control, Fire Suppression and Fire Alarm were designed to provide an occupant safety and comfort, ease of use and flexibility. Consideration was given to balancing first costs while maximizing energy efficiency, minimizing maintenance and operating costs and providing a reliable and robust system with the ultimate goal of reducing annual energy consumption for our client. The Mount Logan Lodge Dorms were designed to withstand the effects of extreme environmental conditions at the project site location. Particular attention was paid to avoid conductive heat loss, thermal bridging, vapour transfer, condensation and air infiltration.
