Architectural Excellence : This building was designed to create a “Nautical” type theme. From its restaurant styled kitchen to a dining room capable of seating 150 guests to a fully stocked bar area with outdoor seating, this buildings floor plan met the needs of the 2nd oldest Yacht Club in the United States. Nine foot ceilings give this building a more open feeling while its hardwood floors in the foyer and bar area create a classic look. The lake view from both the dining area and bar is enhanced by (24) 36” x 36” Arched Windows with Mullions.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : Due to a fire/explosion the SYC lost their original building during Katrina. The land was cleared leaving vacant property and a 30’x50’ hole where the swimming pool had been located. The challenge we faced was accessing the property from two entrances. The main entrance wasn’t an option due to the pool hole. It was decided the only access would be the properties left perimeter where the boats were typically dry docked. The 60’x76’ Restaurant/Bar would be located on the Point with water on three sides. The Change/Shower Facility and the Office Building were to be placed on the far bulk head end to end. Because of the properties triangular shape a house cat was used to manipulate the buildings into position. Decking was installed on four sides of the Restaurant/Bar and between the Change/Shower Facility and Office Building. This gave a Boardwalk effect along the Point with water on two sides of the buildings. The water-view from the Restaurant/Bar is of incoming and outgoing sailboats!

Technical Innovation : Technical design of this building was greatly affected by its exposure to the day to day elements of being located on the Lake Front. Hardi Panel was used because of its ability to deal with damp conditions. Double insulated windows insured that moisture and seasonal temperatures would not enter the structure. A decorative 24” Mansard built of 26 gauge high rib steel with concealed gutters allows rain water to be controlled and properly distributed. The HVAC system was designed with humid conditions in mind using a properly zoned split system allowing the kitchen, dining and bar area to control temperatures within those regions.
