Architectural Excellence : South Valley Bank came to Modern with a preliminary concept for a swing space bank. While this structure was designed to be moved several times, the sense that the owner wanted to convey to their clients was one of permanence. This was accomplished by providing high end finish material for the interior as well as durable products for the exterior. Windows and doors were fully trimmed in stained hardwood vertical grain birch. Solid core doors were used inside to provide a sense of stability, while open areas and interior glass were used to suggest honesty and transparency.

As a visual enhancement, both storefront entrances were given an open beam overbuild using clear grain cedar. The primary entrance to the building was also given a secondary vestibule entrance to help limit exterior temperature fluxuations. After installation the area was backfilled to the finished floor level and concrete walkways poured to add another visual cue of permanence to this temporary building.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : The owner of this project is a thriving local bank. The goal for the owner was to provide temporary “swing space” in small communities that they consider to be potential hot spots. This building was intended to present a permanent appearance for a three year target timeline while clientele is established in the area, it will then be relocated to another community while a larger structure will replace the modular unit on the same site. Durable products were used throughout the building to insure the investment of the client would continue to be cost effective as the building is moved from site to site.

Metal and plastic panels were placed around the entire perimeter of the pressure treated wood framed pit set foundation. The wood frame foundation minimizes site requirements when the building is relocated and offers the potential of being reused in multiple locations.

Technical Innovation : An issue that is becoming more prevalent in building design is allowances for communications. This building had a dedicated server room that needed to be independently climate controlled. The most elegant solution was the addition of a separate Mitsubishi cooling system to independently cool this dedicated space.

To satisfy the client’s desire for fire safety all of the secure areas in the building were upgraded to a two-hour fire rating. Various techniques were incorporated into the building to provide for security issues. Steel plating and increased loading capabilities for vaults and drive-thru windows were all part of the design criteria.

Metal and plastic panels were placed around the perimeter of the pressure treated wood framed foundation. The wood frame foundation minimizes site requirements when the building is relocated and offers the potential of being reused in multiple locations while the metal and plastic panels protect the structure hidden under ground.
