Architectural Excellence : Edmonds School District desired a modular classroom set apart in its dedication to a green and safe environment for students. A building that’s permanence reflects the stability and strength of the school district, the SMART Classroom embodies environmental consciousness. An all steel floor system with spray foam installation allows for installation at grade. Working with the client, a creative exterior of color-blocked cement board siding and a durable metal roof create a showpiece exterior. Bright doors beckon students to a learning haven filled with daylight from extensive windows. Inside, cork lined walls create interactive displays for students and educators alike and an exposed wood glulam beam brings natural textures inside the learning environment.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : Twenty-six gauge steel roofing and a steel floor increase the longevity of this building. The steel floor’s construction allowed for simple attachment to the foundation by welding – creating a strong structure and saving time at the project installation site. The green technologies present in the structure, while a higher initial investment will quickly result in a significant energy and cost savings. Utilizing available natural resources such as daylight and cross breeze create organic energy efficiency within the building and provide solutions that will not be reduced in effectiveness as the facility and technology present age.
