SERMAC
Additional Info
Award Winner : Vesta Modular
Architectural Excellence : The SERMAC Naval Station Mayport called upon VESTA to design and build a custom office building that would not only blend with the existing facility but also provide a facility that they could utilize as command center for support of the Littoral Combat Ships. The design consideration behind the material choices of the exterior was to blend seamlessly with the existing buildings on the base as well being challenged to fit the building within a tight footprint. This led to the 2-story 48’ x 60’ layout that would be replicated throughout multiple phases to accommodate the space requirements.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : The VESTA Modular lease solution allowed the Navy to meet their needs for a quick and cost-effective solution. VESTA was able to fill all of the requirements of the bid and provide the building as a lease. This saved the NAVY significant costs in comparison to an on-site permanent construction solution. The modules stand-alone design gives us many options to provide others with a modular office solution.
Green Building Description : VESTA designed and built the buildings to be of the highest quality construction with a low environmental impact. Careful consideration was given to the fact these buildings would be a part of the VESTA fleet for years to come and as such we utilized materials that would not only require minimal maintenance but also would withstand the location of being close to the Atlantic Ocean. Special building features included low-e windows, high-efficient toilets, recycled steel for the frames, and utilizing additional components built off-site to minimize any unnecessary waste and material disposal once on site.

Technical Innovation : Being a U.S Navy base, the first and most important consideration is the overall safety and security of the buildings. With more than 3,400 acres, NS Mayport is host to more than 80 tenant commands including 22 naval ships and six Light Airborne Multi-purpose System (LAMPS) Mark III helicopter squadrons. VESTA had to become innovative with how to keep the building secure, blend in with the existing buildings and fit within a small footprint. VESTA was able to fill all of the requirements needed from the NAVY, as well as go above and beyond to make sure the design of the project was flexible for future use. Each module was built so that it could function as a single-story structure if ever needed to relocate or repurpose this facility in the future.
