Additional Info

Award Winner : Hawaii Modular Space, an operation of Williams Scotsman, Inc.

Architectural Excellence : In May, homeless individuals and families living at a public beach park were evicted.
The State of Hawaii working along with the private sector opened a temporary emergency shelter in a state owned warehouse which provides up to 200 people a place to stay at night as well as allowing them to keep their belongings in a safe place throughout the day. Hawaii Modular Space quickly responded and provided the State a temporary 12x56 mobile office to accommodate the security staff and social service workers who are assisting the homeless in seeking employment. The office also is set up with computer work stations giving the homeless residents the opportunity to learn much needed computer skills. The mobile office was driven in this 36,000 square foot warehouse and set at the end so as to be able to have a clear view of the entire warehouse. A modular ADA ramp was attached to the mobile office to provide handicap accessibility.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : The Governor of Hawaii was able to get her top level staff to rally a group of non profit organizations to transform an industrial warehouse into temporary housing facility for the homeless in matter of weeks. Hawaii Modular Space was tasked to deliver and set up a mobile office in a matter of days giving their service providers and security staff an air conditioned office to work out of. Hawaii Modular offered the State of Hawaii a rental of this office which gave them flexibility until a permanent facility could be built for the homeless. A modular aluminum ramp was also installed which the state was able to rent instead of paying to build a permanent ramp of wood and concrete which would have had to be demolished at the end of their rental. The advantage of a mobile modular building and ramp is it could be removed from this temporary site and relocated to another if the need arises.
