Architectural Excellence : The Santa House is comprised of four modules, a roof piece, and a clock tower. This temporary building is installed and removed every year and is used for pictures with Santa. Town Square Mall is an open air mall that began the tradition of the Santa House when they opened their doors in 2007 and has incorporated the building every year since. The building is reminiscent of a country cottage, and the windows and doors were replicated from European shoppes. The roofing structure integrates high pitched gables, dormers, and a functioning clock tower that are all adorned with fish scale, shake siding and asphalt shingles. The interior design accommodates a warm and homey feel including a fireplace, holiday decor, and an inviting velvet couch.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : Because of improvements to the overall design, the cost to install and remove this structure has been reduced significantly. With the addition of axles to the two base modules transportation, costs were reduced by allowing it to be done by truck rather than crane. Because the roof with dormers is one piece and the clock tower is also one piece, only two structures needed to be craned into place. By craning only those two pieces, the cost of on-site roofing work has been eliminated. The winter season in Las Vegas yields mild temperatures which means no climate control is necessary thereby reducing the overall cost of both installation and the monthly energy bills. The cost to install and remove this unique building each year is less than leasing a permanent stick-built space.

Technical Innovation : Because the original Santa House was destroyed by a fire, a replacement had to be designed and built prior to the 2014 Christmas season. The final order was placed in October, close to the season opening, so the timeframe for completion was limited. By building the Santa House off-site and installing the structure in 3 days, the deadline was met. Improvements to the new design allowed for a less expensive installation and removal each year. Previously the structure was skid mounted and required craning into position. The addition of axels on two modules now allows for truck transportation and easier installation. The roof piece that incorporates dormers and the one piece clock tower are still craned into place using factory installed, removable lifting eyes. Since the winter season weather in Las Vegas is mild, climate control is unnecessary which saves time on installation. Once the structure is removed, it is placed in storage for the balance of the year.
