Architectural Excellence : The building was designed to meet the needs of the technical and engineering staff of Rolls Royce Energy Systems. The open concept plan aligns with the Rolls Royce Culture of free collaboration between the various engineering fields that occupy the building. The interior consists of various size conference rooms (small, medium, large, and one executive conference room. These conference rooms incorporate smoke glass walls at one end of the conference room, allowing natural light to filter into the rooms. There are several focus rooms around the perimeter of the building which allow for private one-on-one meetings and phone conversations when the need arises. Each floor has an open break room area in the middle of the building. These open concept areas further allow for open collaboration between the departments that occupy the building.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : During the value engineering process, we were able to capitalize on several cost-effective materials for the project, yet maintain the similar look and feel desired by the client. The main material noted is the siding. The original specification called out a specific siding material that was relatively expensive. Satellite Shelters, Inc. identified an alternative siding material that was significantly more cost effective than the material specified, yet almost exact in appearance. Additionally, since the client chose to incorporate the modular method of construction delivery vs. a conventional means, they were able to occupy their building in seven months. This allowed for a quicker occupancy and thus the ability to bring their technical departments under one roof, which was their primary goal.

Technical Innovation : The technical innovation of the building consists of the incorporation of an elevator within the building envelope. This was accomplished by carefully coordinating the design of a stock elevator system into the design of the building. The elevator components were installed after the building was erected. Additionally, the HVAC system played a critical environmental roll. The building consists of 16 rooftop units (RTUs), all zoned to specific areas of the building and linked to a central monitoring and control station. This technical innovation allows for greater control of the building environment as well as an energy cost control measure.
