Architectural Excellence : Providing remote housing to a Colorado drilling location and designed to have a feeling of a “home away from home,” this unit is ideal for supervisors or high level employees at the drilling location. The units consist of one private bedroom with built in queen size bed, 20” flat screen TV, dimmable lights, lots of storage and private bathroom with jacuzzi tub and shower. Full living accommodations include: hardwood floors, chair rails, stainless steel refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave with venthood, 4-burner electric range, under-counter mounted coffee pot, and can opener, kitchen island with bar stools, dining table, leather sofa with built in recliners, built in stereo, 42” plasma television with surround sound, central vacuum system, washing machine, electric dryer, door bell. The entrance to the office is private and includes a ½ bath, L-shaped built in desk with heavy duty wood filing cabinets, over-head cabinets, 20” flat screen television, and a 12-volt AC power supply.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : Given the remote nature of the project, with hectic winter conditions and the level of comfort requested by the client, this unit was designed with a cold weather specification and upgraded package of interior and exterior materials and equipment. Special material finishes were used to give the unit a “home-like” feel. To ensure ease of installation, the units included a three runner skid frame which makes the set up process easier and more efficient. A secondary benefit of the skid frames is the re-usability of the buildings. The skid provides added floor and structure support and makes the transportation process easier and safer. Key plumbing and electrical considerations were used to minimize installation cost and maximize functionality. Because of weather considerations, bathroom floors were raised to keep plumbing from being exposed to the elements and from freezing up.

Technical Innovation : ATCO Structures (USA) Inc. built these units to maximize living space but keep transportation costs to a minimum. The angled wall in the living area truly opened the space up and makes the unit look much larger than it appears from the exterior. Keeping the width under 14 feet allows transportation costs to be reduced as you eliminate the need for an escort during transportation in most states.
