Architectural Excellence : The June floods of 2016 left the small Nicholas County located in West Virginia ravaged by flood waters laying waste to most of the buildings in the area, including the Richwood Middle School. The school needed a sustainable modular campus to provide space while new facilities are designed and constructed, and Aries Building Systems, LLC was the perfect fit. The location for the temporary modular campus required full site development to accommodate the new building development. The contractors had to plan for a quick and affordable replacement with contingencies for wet and snowy days when work is not practical. The entire modular structure was produced offsite, measuring about 24,408 sq. ft.in size and split into 26 modules. The modular building structures were designed to be relocatable while being warm and inviting for the students with speed being the primary advantage of using modular on this project.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : After the flood disaster in June 2016, Aries Building Systems, LLC was tasked with designing, building, and erecting fully modular classrooms for the displaced students in Richwood High. The 24,000 square foot building consists of 26 modules all of which were fabricated at off-site factories. Aries worked with the project architect to develop value engineering strategies that helped reduce the overall cost of the project as well as maintenance costs without compromising the integrity of the design. Several cost-effective alternatives such as LED down lighting fixtures were used, this reduced material and installation costs. The temporary modular units also utilized recycled doors, hardware, and frames.

Technical Innovation : FEMA assessed the Richwood Middle School 100% damaged and modular was the only way to go. The Richwood Middle School campus was deemed inappropriate and the temporary modular campus was housed at nearby Beaver Elementary. This new site for the modular Classrooms required a full structural development to accommodate the multiple buildings. Aries Building Systems had 30 days to design the entire structure, 45 days for factory prefabrication and 60 days to install despite several wet and snowy days. The challenge was to deliver strong, durable, and attractive classrooms and educational space in a short timeline with minimal site disturbance. The entire structure was about 90% complete when leaving the factory and the interior and exterior finishes were carried out on-site with a focus on structural durability and the rigors of school children.
