Architectural Excellence : It was very important for the client to focus on the idea of having a sustainable building for the Pavilion of the Principality of Monaco at Milan 2015 Universal Expo. The building should be designed to be reused for other purposes. Thus, The Monaco Pavilion was conceived in such a way that it could be dismantled, relocated and transformed to become a polyvalent training centre for doctors for the Burkinabe Red Cross in Burkina Faso. The new Centre in line with international norms of the highest quality environmental standards (HQE). The total building surface was 12.000 sqf distributed in four floors. Constructed on a plot area of 10.100 sqf with a building floor area of 5.000 sqf. The project was conceived with 19 modules to form the solid structure of the building, then linked with a Hyperbolic Cross Laminated Wooden Roof Structure (FSC Certified wood).

Cost Energy Effectiveness : The Pavilion conception focused on its reusability. ES-KO and their engineers designed the Pavilion in such a way that it could be entirely dismantled and transported in such a way avoiding damages during transport and handling. While Pavilions are generally built, used and even destroyed after the exhibitions, this was one of the first time in the international exhibitions history that a Pavilion is planned to have a second life use in a developing country. The Monaco Pavilion was dismantled in 2016 and then relocated in Burkina Faso 2017.

A hanging garden on top of the roof with typical Mediterranean plants and vegetable garden echoing the Expo theme. On the Second life of the project the top roof garden was transformed on a solar power panel, large enough to provide power generation to the overall complex and made the project self-sustainable from an energy point of view.
