Architectural Excellence : The camp is designed to accommodate a 24 person drilling crew plus cook staff and camp attendant in comfort and safety. It features upgraded finishes and quality furnishings throughout. The six individual 12 x 54 units complex together to form 3,888 sq ft feet of living space containing 12 bedrooms, 2 lounge/recreation areas, dining room, kitchen, first aid, washrooms, laundry and storage areas that are all interconnected through built-in hallways throughout so that inhabitants can access all areas without going outside.
Two beds per room provide privacy based on the alternating daily rotation of 12 hour work shifts while maximizing space. The 13th bedroom has been customized as a large fully equipped state of the art First Aid room. Washroom and are centrally located and offer private cubicles allowing for flexibility for male and female use. A fully equipped commercial kitchen features top quality restaurant grade appliances and a exterior barbeque to provide further meal options.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : Approximately 95% of the total production process for this project was completed at our central factory. This allowed for only a 5% expenditure on site set-up. By completing such a large amount of the project in factory settings the cost of contracted labor was greatly minimized. Energy efficiency played a large role in the design of this facility. As a “Temporary” accommodation, one of the main focuses during the design phase, was the heating and water efficiency. The use of High Efficiency Intertherm LPG furnaces in combination with low wattage baseboard heaters in each room allow for versatile yet personalized climate control. Low flow water closets and shower heads in combination with quick recovery water heater ensure minimal water waste. Maximizing the onboard storage of consumables such as water and food supplies reduces expensive remote delivery costs.

Technical Innovation : This client operates primarily in harsh northern Canadian climates where temperatures fall below -40F in the winter and can reach 90’s in the summer. The dual heat and fully air-conditioned systems ensure total comfort year round. The lighting in the camp in relation to the weather was also taken in to consideration and was designed to create and maintain a warm, bright atmosphere throughout the long, dark winters. Such climates require a 2” x 6” wall construction with R20 insulation. Windows are double-glazed Low E for added insulation. In order to allow for flexibility and ability to provide additional bed space, the smoking lounge is designed with two Murphy beds which can be used as emergency beds.
As is the case in the oil and gas industry safety is of primary concern. With this in mind, a non slip strip was applied to the surface of the Dec-Tek roofing membrane along with a fall arrest system allowing for safe and easy access while on the roof.
