Architectural Excellence : The QB2 project consists of the installation of a copper concentrator facility. It is located in the northern Chile, at more than 4,000m AMSL, far from urban centers and with harsh site conditions. The requirement was to provide prefabricated solutions to key and relevant buildings for the correct operations of the copper deposit. Complex buildings such as a control room, high-standard offices, active radio warehouses, or chemical and lubricant warehouses, were solved considering all the specialties that this type of enclosure requires, from the most basic to pressurized air conditioning systems, humidity controls, weak current systems and access controls, among others. It was essential to send as many prefabricated solutions from the plant in Santiago and to carry out precise logistical work on site. The project considers 2,184m2 and the main challenge is to meet all the special requirements of the different spaces and maximizing the prefabricated solution.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : The type of project and site conditions make it essential to seek solutions that maximize prefabrication. Workforce is limited and it has a high cost. In addition, the project was carried out 4,000m AMSL, which reduces workers’ performance. On the design aspect, the materials implemented allowed significant savings in climate equipment, since the insulation of the modules permitted efficient consumption and, therefore, lower electrical capacity. The prefabricated solution allowed to considerably reduce the amount of debris on site, which has a great impact on construction costs. Generally, this type of work requires exclusive facilities for the control of emissions. Finally, we were able to install a large part of the electrical and weak currents projects work at our Santiago plant, avoiding the costs of mobilizing special personnel and the associated costs of doing these works on site.

Technical Innovation : The project contemplates the strictest regulations since it is part of an operational mine. Thus, the design developed by our engineers adapted the climate, electrical, sanitary, fire and weak currents projects to a modular solution. Seeking modules as a solution forced to combine different prefabricated construction systems, making them interact efficiently. The modules were designed with high quality materials and comply with all the requirements that are required in harsh site conditions. Insulation is essential due to the great thermal variations of the site. All the windows are double glazed and there is an air and dust control at the entrances. In addition, all electrical installations are highly efficient and it considers a robust weak current system, which allows mine personnel to carry out their operations. The server and electrical rooms, the UPS, the battery bank and the offices are highly complex areas that escape traditional solutions.
