Architectural Excellence : The stunning, state-of-the-art, modular building connects students to new and refurbished garden areas, flowing new paths and artificial turf covered areas, integrating new and existing school buildings, while seamlessly connecting indoor and outdoor learning environments.
The double storey permanent modular solution is an engineering masterpiece; a 430 square building installed across steel footings of variable heights, addressing a tricky site with uneven, sloping terrain. The building included 4 general learning areas, connecting decking areas, an external lift plus painted custom compressed fibre cement screening onsite to complement the leafy natural environment.
The custom screening has been designed to complement the leafy surroundings, while timber look concrete retaining walls and custom painted and cladded walls help balance the structure and surrounding landscape. A black lit window decal provides a stunning nighttime feature, showcasing the beauty of the local landscape.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : This project was 1 of 4 delivered in 12 months for a state education department, highlighting our commitment to client partnership and cost effectiveness. Economies of scale and long-term partnerships enabled us to reduce subcontractor costs and maximise savings across civil/site works, re-coating of sport courts, play yarning circle and landscaping scopes that included:
o design, planting and irrigation
o Re-use of rock boulders found in excavation
o Developing a landscaping manual and integrated learning materials for students about the natural environment
Close client engagement throughout the project resulted in learning spaces that can be adapted to respond to changing future needs, resulting in long-term savings. Classrooms feature innovative teaching walls, accessible via the bulkhead on the ceiling grid that have an interactive screen, hidden when not in use, lockable spaces, GPOs for charging electronic devices and space for future tech upgrades and equipment connectivity.

Technical Innovation : We designed and constructed a bespoke solution for Petrie Terrace State School that converted a previously unused and hazardous site into amazing learning spaces for primary school students through a breathtaking modular transformation.
Nestled within the lush vegetation, the design linked the indoor and outdoor learning environments within the school, converting the dangerously sloping site into a bespoke new building catering for an additional 100 students.
This was no small feat, as the challenging, steep landscape left a very small workable land footprint. Fleetwood overcame these challenges, safely removing old hidden underground services and completing a site cut excavation into the steep hill, to prepare the site for a multi-storey module installation. The school now enjoys beautiful, modern facilities, complemented by updated landscaping and related outdoor learning materials we provided, which showcases and pays homage to the urban forest environment surrounding the school
