Architectural Excellence : Innovative Modular Solutions was contacted by Park Nicollet Health Services to provide a proposal for a new imaging building. At the time, their CT scanner was housed in a cramped basement, and a mobile MRI was located in the parking lot. Their goal was to upgrade their equipment, while having their MRI and CT scanner in in the same space. IMS provided a 2,288 sq. foot, four-module building located adjacent to the main clinic with a convenient connecting entry as the solution. The design utilized a section of exterior space that minimized the loss of parking. An Exterior Insulation Finishing System (EIFS) with field stone wainscoting was used to complement the existing building. All interior finishes, including walls, doors, electrical and cabinetries, are hospital grade and match the existing building.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : The standing relationship IMS had with the OEM Equipment provider allowed for expedited engineering and support throughout the entire process. The building was delivered with all specialty components required to install the medical equipment, saving time during the construction process. The building is designed to be updated or modified to accept different MRI or CT equipment in the future, as well as also having the ability to be relocated to another facility if necessary. The speed and knowledge used during this project allowed Park Nicollet Health Services to minimize any cost overruns and to generate revenue more quickly through an earlier start-up.

Technical Innovation : The building was designed to accept both a 1.5 Tesla MRI and CT scanner. It was delivered with Radio Frequency Shielding and Magnetic shielding to prepare it for the MRI, and lead lined walls, doors and windows to prepare for the CT scanner. This allowed for the construction disruption period to be approximately 90 days, reducing the construction time by 50 percent or more over conventional construction. The medical equipment installed in the building had very specific requirements for areas where it operates, including temperature regulations and a general humidity level of 40-70 percent. A high-efficiency HVAC system was designed to meet the requirements. Each equipment room has its own dedicated system to condition the areas where highly sensitive medical equipment cabinets are located that run the MRI and CT. With the equipment producing heat at various levels based on patient volume, the HVAC system also ensures patient comfort is always maintained in ancillary areas.
