Architectural Excellence : This Intrawest resort staff housing consists of two identical buildings which are divided into four quadrants per floor with each quadrant independent of the others. Each quadrant consists of four bedrooms with shared washrooms and a fully-equipped common kitchen with custom millwork and eating bar.
Two quadrants on the main floor make up the common space: a large lounge area with stained wood windows, recessed pot lamps and an electric fireplace with a stone hearth as well as the laundry room, a locker room and computer room. All doors and windows are painted wood with craftsmen frames.
Timber-framed entrances provide functional, protective refuge from the harsh winter elements. The siding is a mixture of board and batten on the main floor with horizontal hardi-plank siding on the remaining floors and asphalt-shingle roofs.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : Because of the remote location, there are very few places for employees to find affordable housing making it difficult for the resort to hire and retain good workers. In an effort to attract the best people to the organization, Panorama Mountain Village contracted Britco to design and build staff housing as economically as possible while meeting corporate standards and specifications.
The challenge was to maximize a small piece of available land and design a facility that accommodates 96 workers and complements the architecture of the high-end resort while keeping costs in line with a limited budget.

Technical Innovation : The fourth floor was a clever and resourceful idea, designed to make use of the steep roof slope and complete the occupancy requirement for additional bedrooms with a loft appeal. The buildings are three modules wide and the top floor has an additional module in the centre with the roof built around it.
