Architectural Excellence : The intent of using modular for the commission chambers was to lower cost and get more building for the budgeted funds. The upscale commission chamber features 200 theater seats set on a sloped floor. The upholstered seating matches custom carpet in the meeting room. A custom Dais tops off this room that is served by 2 very large rest rooms at the entry. The building has 2 other multi-use rest rooms and all are appointed with ceramic tile floors and walls. The staff has use of a large break room with 20’ of custom cabinets, a microwave oven and stainless steel sink. The taped, textured and painted interior walls are topped with 10’ tegular tiles suspended ceilings. Hallways are 6’ wide and have skylights to enhance fluorescent lighting in those areas. The exterior has multilevel parapets, topped with wide crown molding. A secondary line of molding gives dimension and definition to the stucco exterior walls. Aluma-wood canopies define the entries with stone embellishments and columns.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : While the Nye County Administrative Building will likely never be relocated, the task would be easily accomplished. Installing on helical piers allows for less permanent intrusion on the site. The piers could be moved with the building should the need arise. The monthly energy bill for this 12,600 sq. ft. building (during summer months in NV) was approximately $400. This is due to the well insulated roofing system (R50), 2X6 (R-19) walls and added stucco insulation system for the energy savings enjoyed by the owner. The motion-sensor lighting system is another energy saving feature. Dual phased electrical fixtures and equipment allows three phase savings for HVAC equipment and the convenience and lower cost of single phase lighting. The entry canopies add shade and beauty with the custom columns and stone embellishments. Restrooms provide low cost maintenance options for cleaning and durability with ceramic tile covering the floor and continuing up the walls for a seamless finish.

Technical Innovation : The 1 ½” thick, sloped floor was also installed at the factory to support the theater seating. Energy efficiency and insulation were important and the optional TPO roof with 2” foam insulation was added and installed once the building was onsite. Each room contains motion-sensor lighting to achieve cost effectiveness and functionality. The roof mounted HVAC system was less expensive due to the insulation properties of the building. This building was set using helical piers since the site had expansive soils, site work cost would have been extraordinary to achieve the desired pad. The use of helical piers saved time and cost by utilizing this innovative method of support. Recessed entries at rear doors save energy and protect the openings. The electrical system utilizes a transformer to convert three phase power to single phase and maximize energy savings. Since this building was required to have sprinklers, installing the sprinkler system offered monetary savings in man-hours.
