Additional Info
Award Winner : Triumph Modular
Architectural Excellence : A custom designed, 26 module, 13,000 sq foot preschool is the new building for the “CUBS” (Children United by Special Abilities). The North Andover Early Childhood Center was designed and built according to exact specifications requested for the students. In every classroom the students have sink areas, observation windows, cubby alcoves, and bathrooms. The center includes a nurse’s station which is a critical area for the health of the children. For the faculty there is a lunch room, reception area and teacher/parent meeting rooms. Beautiful ceramic and mosaic tiles line the halls and bathroom walls. The low profile building blends into the natural landscape and the classroom windows look out to a beautifully wooded area.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : The preschool was constructed with a number of sustainable or “green” features as well. These features include exterior sunshades, white roofing, low VOC paints and adhesives, and microbial drywall and ceiling tiles. The use of energy recovery ventilators (ERVs) which promote positive moisture control and good indoor air quality resulted in several rebates from National Grid. The ERVs combined with occupancy sensors helps in the reduction of energy use. The final clean of the building used only sustainable GREENGUARD® products which the Center adopted as its on-going cleaning policy. With the efficiency afforded by modular construction, the total time from conception to completion of the school was only six months. Ninety percent of the building was completed at the factory including the finish work such as mosaic and ceramic tile, cabinetry, siding and painting.

Technical Innovation : Placement of a seam on one side of the hallway cut down on seam work time and material resulting in a more efficient and timely install. Custom made screens mask the 12 roof top units. Given the placement of the building and grades, these roof top screens were a great addition to the already appealing look of the building. The playground is 50 percent ADA accessible to accommodate the children with special needs and the classroom bathrooms have 10-inch toilets specially sized for the students.
