Architectural Excellence : New Shores Elementary is located just 25 miles south of San Francisco in Redwood City. This completely new campus was constructed in 3 phases to expand gradually, retaining the flexibility that is key to modular construction. The campus includes an administration building, gymnasium, library, classrooms, restrooms, and daycare facilities. Buildings were designed with unique clerestory windows a design element Meehleis Modular has pioneered and perfected. Classrooms are connected with elegant covered walkways that provide cover from the elements while allowing ample natural light in to the learning spaces.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : Planned as an expandable campus, New Shores Elementary was divided into 3 phases allowing the campus and surrounding housing to expand gradually without overburdening the owners with the cost of a full campus. Meehleis Modular was able to grow with the project for 6 years while the surrounding housing was completed further funding the school and establishing its need. We also designed the building to be as efficient as possible with our innovative clerestory features that save owners money on energy costs by harnessing the sun to light the learning spaces.

Green Building Description : New Shores Elementary meets California's Title 24 requirements. This achieved through a myriad of design and material elements. Large windows and a clerestory design allow the classrooms and surrounding buildings to light the learning/activity spaces. Additionally low volatile organic compound or VOC materials were used throughout the buildings providing a safe and healthy classroom environment.

Technical Innovation : This new campus was broken into 3 phases and spaced out over 6 years requiring a design that would span the build time as well as one that would allow us to pick up where we left off after each phase. Our streamlined construction processes and in house engineering team allowed us to execute this complex plan and balance two additional school sites for the same district.
