New Dorp Modular Press Box
Additional Info
Award Winner : Panel Built, Inc.
Architectural Excellence : As a part of a full renovation of their football field (new turf, aluminum bleachers, refurbished scoreboard, upgraded LED lighting system, and eight-lane track), New Dorp High School wanted to add a top-of-the-line press box to their list of upgrades. The single-unit, modular press box offers 192 square feet of finished interior space for coaches and announcers to watch the game during their Friday-night home games. Three individual spaces are divided to provide privacy for coaches, planning out their next plays and formations. Additionally, the interior space includes a ladder and a roof hatch, to grant access to the press box’s camera deck above. The camera deck grants a clear view of the whole field and includes barrier railing to safely enclose the space. As a part of the field’s new layout, the press box sits above the field’s main entrance for fans to walk under when entering and exiting the facility.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : With the press box prefabricated and pre-assembled in our modular construction facility, the building required minimal work on-site to complete the project. As the building was delivered to the school’s campus in the middle of the school year (February), minimal work on-site not only reduces the overall labor costs associated with the project but also helps provide a safer and less disruptive environment for students. Panel Built’s factory environment helped to ensure a fast, highly controlled construction process with the building passing a 35-point quality inspection before shipment to the job site. This environment helps to eliminate errors in the construction process and delivers an overall higher quality product for the end customer. Panel Built’s pre-assembled buildings are designed to easily withstand the rigors of cross-country transportation which, in turn, provides a long-lasting, durable solution for the school system.

Technical Innovation : The press box unit was delivered to their campus pre-assembled, nearly at 100% completion. For safe transportation, the press box’s HVAC system and barrier railing around the perimeter of the camera deck would need to be installed on-site. The front of the building includes a row of horizontal sliding glass windows, stainless steel countertops, and dividing walls to create three, comfortable 8ft wide spaces for the coaches and announcers. Each space includes two electrical outlets and a telephone/data prep, allowing the coaches to easily communicate with the on-field staff. The camera deck’s roof hatch is fully insulated and includes an EPDM rubber gasket to ensure weather tightness and energy efficiency.
