Architectural Excellence : The project consisted of one 24’x44’ modular elementary classroom building. The building was installed on concrete piers, with the threshold of the doors at 30” above grade. This method of installation allowed us to use one 30’ aluminum ramp system. The use of 12” wide, inter-locking pieces of .024 aluminum siding, with no exposed fasteners provides clean architectural lines. The designer beige siding, along with the brown shingles and trim on the 2:12 pitch roof, compliment the tan brick elementary school building. The combination of a steel, commercial grade, 2’x4’ grid ceiling, with lay-in, acoustical tiles along with 26oz. commercial grade carpeting, provides a good acoustical learning/teaching environment. Genuine oak veneered plywood paneling creates additional aesthetic appeal. Our client states that the parents are very pleased with the interior of the classroom because it does not look like the “typical trailer”.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : One 3 1/2 ton, 20kW Bard wall hung HVAC unit is utilized for this school project. A CRV unit was installed to insure meeting the Indiana fresh air requirements. Insulated air return ducts were located in the floor, utilizing the longitudinal cavities of the floor to return air from the farthest point in the room. A 30 ga. galvanized steel underbelly is used under the floor to prevent moisture and air infiltration into the building. The insulation values are R-19 floor, R-11 sidewalls and R-30 ceiling. Additionally, by using the aluminum ramp system this will allow the school to move the building and ramp in a cost effective manor. The floor and building construction described in the technical innovation section results in a lower relocation cost and extended life of the building.

Technical Innovation : During the manufacturing process for a 24’x44’ classroom building, two 12’x44’, 10” Jr. I-beam perimeter frames, with 8” Jr. I-beam cross members 4’ on center, are used. The frames, with floor assemblies, are brought together and the ¾ T&G flooring is secured to the entire 24’x44’ assembly. The final step is to cut the floor in half at the mate-line. The two halves complete the building process side-by-side, blocked and leveled, only 30” apart and cross dimensions are verified. This method of production insures that the floors can be installed at a school site with the two halves touching, just as they were manufactured, and the exterior walls are aligned. Installation time is faster and the buildings can be relocated many times without the fear of poor mate-line connections. Interlocking 12” pieces of .024, aluminum siding are used in lieu of 4’ wide sheets of .019 siding. The pieces are stapled into place in the interlock, eliminating the poor aesthetics of the exposed fasten
