Architectural Excellence : The 106-Owyhee building is a permanent one-story office building which was constructed using modular construction methodology to provide a total gross square footage of 18,061 square feet. Twenty-one total modules create this u-shaped building allowing for the seven different governmental agencies in this building to be secure and separated, without being forced into individual buildings. Each suite has a dedicated HVAC system, with multiple zones and adjustable thermostats. The entire HVAC system is controlled by a Johnson Controls VVT control system in which is archived to a computer on campus. Large exterior windows, and roof mounted light monitors harvest natural light and deliver it to the interior areas of the building including all of the interior offices with the use of transom lights. The exterior of the building is a (3) coat stucco finish, with the use of pilasters and mansard trim at roofline to match the existing concrete tilt-up buildings surrounding the campus. Double
Cost Energy Effectiveness : The entire goal of this building was cost effectiveness; from conception to completion. It was set out to and finished 40% above energy efficiency code. Several of the items that contributed to this are: high performance Low-E windows and additional bronze coating on south and west facing windows to reduce glare; dual level lighting throughout the office suites; all fixtures were configured with 1/3-2/3 lamp switching; dual technology motion sensor activated interior lighting in all offices and conference rooms; ultra-high efficiency HVAC units; advanced HVAC VVT control system with three zone controls in each suite; and extensive use of natural day-lighting. Large exterior windows, Transom lights on interior
offices, and roof mounted light monitors that harvested natural light and delivered it to the interior areas. Building has qualified for the Idaho Power incentive program and has received an energy credit to their Idaho Power account close to $30,000.00.

Technical Innovation : With an 8’-6” ceiling height, and transportation height restrictions, design and installation of all the HVAC duct work became extremely challenging. We partnered with Carrier, Inc. and resolved the challenging design obstacles which allowed for us to complete the majority of the HVAC duct work within the factory. Data and communication lines were also challenging. With over 17 miles of data cabling installed, the challenge of finding space in the ceiling cavity to conduit this amount of cable and still have room for 50% growth was not an easy task.
