Architectural Excellence : The Montgomery County School District was faced with several challenges. They had six schools in need of additional classroom and restroom space due to renovations and increased enrollment. Forty-four (44) classroom buildings and three restroom buildings were manufactured and set up in a record thirty days to meet the immediate need of the school district. M Space worked closely with the school authorities to design the modular buildings and define site placement. The units were placed at six locations, and were designed to be portable to meet future space needs throughout the district. Type IIB clear span construction was used for both the classroom and restroom buildings.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : Full length oversized ducts ran through the classrooms with 375 CFM vent fans. The HVAC system was set with a motion sensor to operate continuously only when the building was occupied. This feature saves energy and decreases costs. By considering re-use and portability during the design phase, M Space was able to provide an extremely cost effective solution for the school districts current and future needs. The cost savings associated with the ability to relocate these buildings was a major reason modular construction was selected.

Technical Innovation : Reuse and relocation of the units was a top priority for the Montgomery School District. M Space designed buildings for Montgomery that could be easily relocated and reused at a different school if the need should arise. Site locations were evaluated for placement options that would allow for immediate set-up and utility connections. Foundation work was underway as the buildings were being manufactured and delivered to make it possible to meet the tight timeline. M Space was flexible and able to provide additional buildings that were ordered mid-way through construction, and still complete the project within 30 days.
