Modular Classrooms at Ateret
Additional Info
Award Winner : Nadler Modular Structures
Architectural Excellence : Ateret is among the most sought after and fastest growing private schools in the Brooklyn area, looking after almost 1,500 students ranging from Pre-K all the way up through high school. After some investigation into the school’s needs, Nadler came up with a solution through the renovated reuse of an existing modular construction. This involved reconfiguring a modular building and changing the existing factory-built commercial structure to meet the needs of a new application that was unique to the structure’s original design.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : A major contributing factor to the cost effectiveness of this project was the fact that the buildings were re-used from a previous project - thus the modular building was built from a cost of materials and labor perspective that was approximately 8 years earlier. This specific building was never actually occupied thus giving the school a used cost basis for a building that was never actually used - in essence delivering a ’new’ modular building project at a substantial discount.

Technical Innovation : The ability for the modules to arrive on site in July and allow the school to open in mid-September could not have been achieved if not for the ability of a renovated reuse modular solution. The structure was able to satisfy a variety of space requirements across its 120 feet in length X 48 feet in width footprint, delivering: eight classrooms; a staff breaks area; functional office space; and a spacious multi-fixture bathroom. Through a segmented ductless heating and cooling system design, every two classrooms were able to have its own thermostat controls – thus providing a more comfortable and personalized environment for the students and teachers.
