Architectural Excellence : The exterior of the building is designed to fit in with the character and image of the mountainous region while meeting the strict design guidelines of the resort village. The horizontal wood finishes on the front and back enable the building to blend in with the wooded surroundings, while the vertical metal siding on the ends and the sharp aluminum windows provide a modern solution. The shed-style roof and the angled-wall styling is unique to the current trend in modular classrooms typically seen in this region, which is characterized by a flat roof that is not very inviting and attractive. The interior of the building is a bright and open learning environment with high ceilings, plentiful windows, and a combination of gyproc and wooden finishes.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : This modular classroom design has the beneficial components that are seen in almost all modular buildings: temporary foundations that don’t require significant site remediation; the factory building component that allows for a very short on-site construction timeline; and the relocatability feature, which was a requirement of the local school district’s ever-changing needs.

Technical Innovation : This building incorporates the latest technology in structure design to maximize the insulation values, which results in a very energy efficient building. The exterior boasts a sloped roof to naturally provide a channel for the substantial snow accumulation to fall to the rear of the building, away from the occupants. The interior boasts windows that are tall and plentiful, bringing increased natural daylight into the learning environment. The classroom building is self-sufficient by providing its occupants with their own washroom spaces, storage facilities and a mechanical room to house the HVAC equipment. Lastly, the modular design allows this building to be relocated within the region as the needs of the local school district requires.
