Architectural Excellence : Clayton Homes has been working with a national public relations firm to brand its product throughout the United States. With over 450 retail locations, they needed a new, more upscale look to attract higher-end customers. The old offices looked more like double-wide mobile homes than modular offices. The new design was developed in conjunction with the public relations firm’s overall market strategy and was an integral part of the branding process. An exterior stucco finish along with a parapet roof gives a professional appearance. Inside, 9' ceilings and open areas makes the office feel larger than it is. Natural light flows from the many large windows and interior glass enhances the open feel. High-end finishes like finished drywall, commercial hardwood floors, custom cabinetry, and solid surface countertops round out the overall image.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : Before Clayton Homes ordered the building, it did a complete “apples-to-apples” comparison to a comparable site-built solution. The modular application offered savings of more than 30% to a site-built office. Speed was the other major factor with the ability to occupy the office in only a few weeks after delivery, instead of several months. Although the building can be relocated, it is comprised of off-frame modular units that are set to ground level to give a site-built look to the office. This also aids in ADA compliance and the overall ease of access for the customers. Energy efficiency was also a major concern. Energy-saving features like upgraded insulation, Low-E dual glazed windows, high efficiency HVAC systems, low flow plumbing fixtures and compact fluorescent light fixtures were incorporated. Not only was the modular solution less expensive initially, it will be cost effective to maintain over time and should serve the customer for years to come.

Technical Innovation : Factory-built construction works extremely well for this client as they continue to upgrade existing offices. The speed of the modular process enables them to get a new office with a minimal amount of disruption to their normal business activities. The new office also supports technical innovations in the way Clayton does business. Sales professionals use computers for everything from taking applications to the actual design and color selections on the homes. The building was designed with this in mind and has wiring for computers and television monitors throughout. Finally, to cut down on ambient noise in the open atmosphere, a “white noise” system was installed to provide an effective working environment.
