Mobile Garage for Black Swan Racing
Additional Info

Architectural Excellence : Black Swan Racing, a pro-am car racing team, takes its mobile ISO container garage to races around the world. While competitors scramble to relocate and organize their cars and tools in a new garage space, Black Swan simply places the garage, opens the doors and gets to work. The container garage’s sleek white exterior and elegant black logo exude professionalism while the container’s corrugated steel fits in seamlessly with the industrial setting of a racetrack.
On the interior, the white painted aluminum plated walls create a modern and futuristic space. One end of the container is devoted to garaging the team’s Porsche 911. The other end doubles as storage for equipment and a workshop space with modular cabinets. When the team needs more room to work, it can roll the cabinets out of the container, and snap them together into an open-air work bench.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : Ease of relocation creates long term savings for Black Swan Racing. Because the garage is built inside a standard sized ISO container, it does not require over-size permits when traveling via truck. The lumber-free finish out saves the team considerable permitting costs and head-ache when clearing international customs.
Storing all their equipment in one modular space also spares Black Swan Racing logistics costs. Typically, teams will have to spend a significant amount of time and money coordinating garage space and transporting tools to the race track. Black Swan Racing simply brings its car, garage and supplies in one self-contained unit, and places it on the asphalt.
Climate control systems keep tools and the car at optimal temperatures, extending their lifetimes and cutting repair costs in the long term.

Technical Innovation : Several times a year, Black Swan Racing packing its tools and its car into the container garage for travel overseas on a cargo ship. At each point of entry, the garage must clear customs. While it’s possible to import wooden structures, concerns about stow away insects make clearance much more difficult. To make international travel easier, Falcon designed the mobile garage to use non-lumber based materials. All the interior framing was completed with metal studs. Spray foam insulation coupled with metal sheet walls also created a pest tight interior that would satisfy customs officers.
Turnkey electricity enables Black Swan Racing to plug into the grid or a generator and start using power tools as soon as they arrive at the race track. HVAC systems create ideal conditions for working on the car and storing it in the long term.
