Architectural Excellence : A county Hospital saw an opportunity to reach out to a small rural community in need of local healthcare. The Hospital purchased a few small building lots in town and combined them to build the new family healthcare building. The facility had to be up and operational in a matter of months in order to meet the requirements of the doctors moving their practice into the town. It was important that this building fit on the building lot and blend in nicely with the main street of the local community. A concrete ramp tied into the sidewalk the entrance so that it looked professional and not temporary. The interior floor plan was custom designed to centralize the nurses’ station with offices and exam rooms on either side of the hallway. A bay window was installed to open the waiting room for the patients.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : It was less expensive to have one electrical panel factory installed to power the three modular sections, then to have the traditional individual subpanels per modular section. This one electrical point and minimal cross over wiring in the field kept the overall electrical budget down. A commercial glass front door and multiple insulated and tinted windows were placed throughout the building bringing natural light into the space. Higher insulation levels in Ceiling (R-38) Walls (R-13) Floors (R-30) insured lower monthly utility bills and create healthier and more comfortable building environment. High performance lighting such as T-8 lighting with continuous dimming ballasts ensures high light levels, but low energy use.

Technical Innovation : Factory installed laminate counter tops, sliding interior windows, sinks, rotating specimen tray, counters and cabinets in each of the exam rooms were all installed prior to delivery to insure the project schedule was met. The budget was limited so factory installed stucco was installed on the building and seamed at site. Due to the speed of occupancy the 8’ x 9’ vestibule was factory built and installed as a module in lieu of stick building it on site. The drains for the roof were built to pitch water to the scuppers on the exterior.
