Cost Energy Effectiveness : The buildings provided for the project were between 5-10 years in age. They were all re-designed to meet the individual needs of each school site. HMC decided to use modular complex buildings in lieu of typical double wide classroom buildings to keep each classroom facility under one roof so the students and faculty would not have to move from building to building, thus keeping them from being exposed to the elements.
HMC completed this project two weeks before the required completion date. In order to maintain costs, HMC self performed all work with the exception of the utility connections. The scope of work included; engineering, permits, design and installation of foundations under each building, 12’x12’ link built at HS site, fire alarms, intercom systems, all new smart-boards in each classroom, installation of automatic drinking fountains, all ADA ramps for each building, patching of asphalt and re-seeding of sites, and installation of concrete sidewalks for ADA accessibility.

Technical Innovation : Due to the extremely short time parameters for this job, HMC purchased used buildings and brought them into Missouri from MN, OH, IL, and IN. In order to expedite the facilities arriving in Missouri, HMC worked with FEMA as well as the Governor of Missouri to transport the buildings seven days a week, 24 hours per day. All buildings were re-engineered and updated to meet 2006 IBC Code. HMC worked closely with the State of Missouri while renovating the buildings to obtain the required Missouri State Seals for each building. The buildings were completely renovated to “like new” condition. The new laboratory building was renovated from standard classroom buildings. All walls were removed and new structural headers were installed. New laboratory equipment was designed and installed, including a limestone filtration system. Each laboratory station was equipped with hook ups for water, sewer, gas, and electric. Several sensor activated eyewash stations were installed per room.
