Technical Innovation : Treatment technology using a membrane bioreactor that is compact and versatile. Aerated biological process effectively reduces levels of biological oxygen demand (BOD), total suspended solids (TSS) and coli form bacteria in effluent (discharge) to levels well within worldwide regulatory limits. Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) technology, combining bacterial action with advanced membrane filtration, is the most advanced wastewater treatment available and has several advantages over other treatment technologies. Absolute separation of biological sludge from effluent by membranes produces high quality effluent (TSS<5 mg/l, BOD<5 mg/l). Complete control of sludge concentration, sludge age and other process parameters, enabling MBR systems to cope with variations in raw sewage (characteristics, toxic chemicals and quantity) Bioreactor solids concentrations are 2 – 4 times higher than in conventional systems, consequently bioreactor can be smaller and entire system extremely compact.
