Additional Info

Award Winner : ModSpace

Architectural Excellence : GE partnered with Chugach Industries, Inc., Clark Design Build, LLC, and Hunter Modular construction to complete the installation of the Hunter Army Airfield. GE teamed up with Design Space International and Clayton Manufacturing Housing to complete their $18.2 million modularity project portion. GE’s Modular Space division provided 277 separate units, joined to form 98 buildings, which are used as barracks, dayrooms, storage and vehicle maintenance facilities.

The modularity project at Hunter Army Airfield is one of the largest ever undertaken in the industry.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : With assistance from GE, the new building has increased flexibility in meeting its housing and training initiatives as the military units who reside in those structures complete their training and preparation for missions.

The installation was completed in only 3-4 months – a record pace for this type of project, saving the U.S. Military time and money.

The quick installation of the new facilities at Hunter Army Airfield has helped the Army get their rapid deployment capabilities underway, in a timely and realistic fashion, particularly urgent when forces are being deployed to fight the Global War on Terrorism.

Technical Innovation : Each barrack unit in the base was designed to include two living quarters, and within those quarters are three separate rooms, a central kitchen and bathroom. Each room is furnished with new furniture, including a computer desk, television stand, dresser, lamps and a twin-size bed.

The project team overcame design and construction challenges using innovative workshop efforts and were able to leverage past experience - with the Fort Stewart and Fort Bliss projects - to deliver the project both on-time and on-budget. The project management team is credited with this larger-than-life installation.
