Architectural Excellence : The existing Huff House Inn consists of the main historic house and 4 associated cabins on the
property totaling approximately 0.54 acres. The main historic house was constructed in 1917 as
the primary residence for Dr. Charles Huff and Edna Huff. The other buildings were added at a
later date bringing the property to a total of 6,878 SF with 11 guest rooms and 2 employee rooms.
The new 2 story addition will provide 14 new guest rooms, 6 employee rooms (only 2 employee
rooms are required by code) and 1,500 SF of basement amenity space. The new addition will
have a walkway that connects the new rooms to the historic main house. Check-in, breakfast
and bike/ski storage will still be provided in the main house. Additional outdoor seating areas,
fire-pits, and a hot tub will be provided with the addition.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : 2x6 exterior walls with R5 insulation at exterior plane was installed beneath siding, fiberglass insulation used to fill the wall cavity. We used Tyvek Straight flash, flex wrap and homewrap to provide a uniform product offering for the harsh climate. Trex decking was used with poly cap to protect against UV rays. Prodema siding was installed onsite to give a real wood-look. Factory provided the exterior siding package and roof trusses to reduce material costs for the owner as local solutions are very expensive.

Green Building Description : double walls at marriage lines provide additional sound attenuation between rooms, there's no structural connection between room walls, so sound does not travel as much as site-built construction. Rooms all contain EPA rated fireplaces to allow control over room temperature in cold climate. Recirculating fans in each room to assist in air change to keep air quality fresh. Low VOC paint was used on interior and exterior surfaces. Waste in the factory was re-used in our framing operation, very little waste is disposed of to the landfill.

Technical Innovation : Matching of existing historic building and proximity to downtown required some elements of site-built construction and factory construction. Used Mods for most efficient sections of the building, which were the rooms and corridors, constructed decks in factory with railings using TPO underlayment and reverse-cut non-penetrating sleepers. Timber framing was desired along the rooflines and gable ends, which was performed onsite by a local timber framer. To ensure alignment of modules, they were stacked 2 story in our factory due to our factory ceilings being very high. The project had extensive tilework done to match the existing cabins that were done a few years previous.
