Architectural Excellence : This building was constructed for use as a temporary conference room during a major renovation at the Historic Hotel Hershey. It was important that this building blend in with the ethics of the surrounding buildings and immaculate gardens. The hotel did not want this temporary building to look out of place like traditional temporary buildings. The facility grounds host countless weddings and special events and near perfection was a requirement of the user. A light tan stucco exterior was installed which complimented the nearby light colored brick building. A barrel, steel, mansard roof line was installed which had four accenting columns resting on pedestals to also match with the surroundings. The building set 20' off of the hotel so that the distance of travel was not too great for the hotels guests. A light gray powder coated aluminum handicap ramp and stairs accented with stucco siding was installed just adjacent to the exterior hotel for efficient access.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : In lieu of a site installed stucco application, a panelized stucco press sheet was used for the siding. Multi pane windows in the exterior doors as well as windows were placed throughout to let natural light in the building. The hotel planed to reuse this building after the renovation of the hotel is complete and designed it so that it could have additional modular sections inserted between the two half to form a larger building. Once relocated and expanded it will form a 2,160 sq ft building. Since the building was designed as a clear span structure the interior floor plan yet undetermined could be rather flexible and site built once relocated to another permanent location on the property and used as office space. The prefabricated aluminum stair and ramp system will also be relocated and reused to contain cost.

Technical Innovation : The conference room needed interior flexibility for multiple scheduled events. A 60' steel clear span truss system was built to insure there were no interfering columns in the interior. The interior lighting had 3- way switching with dimmable fluorescent ballasts to insure that proper lighting was achieved for any event scheduled to use the space. Positive site drainage was an important concern of the user. Interior roof drains were built in the building directing the water through a scupper to a downspout and underground storm water system. The down spouts hide behind the exterior columns. The height and degree of pitch of the steel barrel roof mansard built in the factory was at its maximum for road transportation.
