Architectural Excellence : The Library of Hendricks Day School is a multipurpose building. The main area is a school library where classes are held and students do research and check out books. This main area also houses a unique working television studio where student produce a closed circuit morning show that is broadcast into every classroom. Designed to serve as an environment for students with learning differences, there are two classrooms that are divided by accordion doors to facilitate needed flexibility when working with students ranging from K-8th grade. Teachers open the space to accommodate large movement activities or close it off for lessons. Along with storage and bathroom space, a wrap-around covered deck is utilized by every grade level in the school as a lunch area, reading space, and outdoor working environment. The deck connects the neighboring building for ease of access to the library.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : This cost effective approach was selected over conventional site built construction due to cost and speed. The ability to relocate the building as the demographics change is another cost saving consideration that was part of the planning process.
