Architectural Excellence : With growing student enrollment, Geneva Day School had an immediate need for classroom space. The school chose a modular building to provide learning space for Kindergarten students. By selecting modular as their building solution, the school was able to maintain its schedule for opening school on time in August 2011. In Montgomery County, an affluent area, building architecture and community development are highly-valued. The aesthetics of the surrounding homes and buildings called for creativity in the design of the modular building’s exterior finish. A portico and stucco finish was chosen to allow the classroom to blend seamlessly with the adjacent school building and church. The permanent modular space features a large open learning area, separate offices for teachers and personnel, and a kitchenette with counter tops and cabinetry.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : To ensure that heat remains in the building in the winter and cool air doesn’t escape in the summer, a minimum of R-15 insulation was installed in the ceiling space, the walls were insulated with R-11 insulation, and R-22 insulation was included below the sub-floor. The sprayed on stucco finish also adds to the walls’ thickness helping to further insulate the building. The accelerated design and manufacturing process, coupled with simultaneous site preparation, enabled the classroom to be open and operational for the first day of the 2011-2012 school year.

Technical Innovation : Recent research shows that children that have more access to natural light in the classroom do better in school. With this in mind, Williams Scotsman installed additional windows to the learning area to maximize the use of natural light. The additional windows also provide energy savings for the end user.
