Architectural Excellence : The Full Service Schools of Jacksonville is a United Way led collaborative approach to serve the therapeutic, health and social service needs of at-risk students and families in Duval County. The full service schools are set up to support neighborhoods and schools providing family and substance abuse counseling. M Space delivered the eight 12’ x 36’ modules to the High School campus creating a building that would serve nine schools with over 10,000 students. The 36’ x 96’ building consists of 13 offices, restrooms and a reception area. Carpet and vinyl flooring run throughout the building along with energy efficient florescent lighting and suspended acoustical ceilings. The building incorporates “clear span” construction for ease of future reconfiguration. A synthetic stucco finish on the exterior of the building supports the Full Service Schools branding/image. Awnings with covered connecting sidewalks provide a visual accent.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : The modular building solution was the best choice to meet the current and future needs of the customer. It was also the most cost effective approach to meet the project budget and timeline. Based on the design, future costs associated with reconfiguration for reuse will be minimal.

Technical Innovation : The building was designed for production at the factory in a way that would allow it to be taken apart in the future and used as separate classrooms. Each classroom is a separate self contained building, set side by side and joined aesthetically to appear as one building and certified as such. This design was necessary as the project depends on United Way funding. If funding is not available in the future, the building would need to be broken up into separate classrooms and relocated. Flexibility and the ability to be easily reconfigured were critical in the overall design approach. Clear Span construction was selected as it provides for total renovation/re-design without concern for interior load bearing columns that would compromise future layouts.
